Scotty Eats Program

PURPOSE
  • ScottyEats program is to reduce food waste in UCR’s dining hall, Glasgow, while addressing food insecurity among students. By recovering surplus food that would otherwise be discarded, the program provides nourishing meals to students, promoting sustainability and equity on campus.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
  • In collaboration with the Basic Needs Department, Office of Sustainability, GCAP, Dining Services, and ASUCR, we host weekly evening event where recovered food from UCR Glasgow dining hall is safely served to students. Our team ensures food is properly handled and distributed in a welcoming environment on campus, following all food safety guidelines. The program is modeled after UCLA’s Bruin Dine and has been tailored to meet UCR student needs.
WHO ARE THE BENEFICIARIES
  • The primary beneficiaries are UCR students, particularly those experiencing food insecurity or financial hardship. The program is open to all currently enrolled Highlanders, with a focus on creating an inclusive, judgment-free space where students can access meals and community support.
